How Our Founder Started A Personal Assistant Company In Nashville

Kathryn Currey, Founder of Friday Personal Assistants

I love helping people… but it's not the act of helping that brings me joy — it's the end result.

When someone says, "I no longer feel like I'm drowning. I feel free of the mental clutter." — that's what I love hearing. Every time I hear that, it gives me renewed purpose, knowing that I'm doing something right. I've always said, if I can help one person and make a real difference in their life, then I've accomplished what I set out to do.

But it has been a journey to live authentically and show up every day knowing that I'm doing good.

Before I started Friday Personal Assistants in Nashville, I was working in the corporate world, selling a product I didn't believe in. I felt lost. I felt like I didn't have a purpose. I wasn't happy.

I knew I needed to do something different — something that aligned with my love of helping people. I remember sitting at my desk and asking myself, "What do I love doing? What am I good at? How can I combine the two?"

The answer came to me: I'm good at project management. I'm good at running a household. I love helping people, and I want to build something bigger than myself.

Then it clicked — personal assistance and home management. It feeds my passion for helping people and aligns with my natural strengths.

That idea started almost two years ago, and I haven't looked back.

But if I said it has been easy, I'd be lying. It has come with its share of challenges.

The biggest one has been stepping out of the personal assistant role and focusing on building the business, not just working in it. I want so badly to do all the hands-on work myself, but I know that in order to serve more clients across Nashville, I need to hire more personal assistants.

The good news? There's no shortage of incredible personal assistants in Nashville who love helping people just as much as I do. It has been genuinely fun getting to know this community and matching the right assistant with the right client.

My next challenge was creating services that meet people at different stages of their lives. My original vision was to help as many people as possible with no hourly minimums. I quickly realized, though, that no minimums didn't work for the assistants. It's not realistic to ask someone to drive 15 minutes for a one-hour job — honestly, even two hours is a stretch. So we implemented a three-hour minimum per visit for all of our personal assistants.

Since I operate a little more flexibly, when a one-hour project comes up, I can step in and handle it efficiently. The three-hour minimums go to my team, and when someone just needs an hour to clear their mental load and get back on track, I'm there.

It's exciting, because we're able to help people anywhere from one hour all the way up to 40 hours of support per week — and we make it simple. We handle payroll and insurance. All you do is pay an invoice at the end of the month.

If you're feeling overwhelmed, like your to-do list is 30 pages long and the mental load is too great to carry, we can help. We'll assess your needs, figure out how much time you need each week, and match you with the perfect personal assistant.

We can't wait to help you.
